POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direction of the City Attorney, the City Prosecutor will perform professional legal services related to municipal government operations, primarily direct oversight of criminal prosecution and related civil litigation and overflow civil work to support the City Attorneys Office. Conduct legal research and prepare ordinances, resolutions, memoranda, and other legal documents. Advise City departments, staff, boards, and commissions; and provide professional legal assistance to the City Attorney. Handle administrative tasks related to prosecution, including creating case files, screening cases, drafting information forms, and issuing subpoenas.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage and assist in prosecution of all assigned criminal, civil, and administrative cases, which may include preparation of pleadings, reviewing evidence, plea negotiations, research, appellate briefing, and argument of legal concepts and principles. Conduct bench and jury trials, motion hearings and other related trial work, recommend sentencing when appropriate, and handle appeals as needed. Perform administrative tasks such as creating case files, screening cases, drafting information, and issuing subpoenas, with the possibility of delegating to an administrative assistant if hired in the future.
- Coordinate with the City Attorney to manage prosecution-related tasks; identify and resolve problems related to City prosecution, victim advocacy and other assigned projects and program areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures.
- Provide legal guidance to the Victim Advocate Program as needed.
- Foster productive and positive relationships with Judges and court employees, Public Safety personnel, and other persons and entities engaged in the judicial
- Meet quarterly with the Police Chief to provide guidance on police officer reports, testimony, and witness presentation, and to receive feedback on law enforcement trends and priorities. Meet quarterly with the Community Development Director to collaborate with the code enforcement officer, providing guidance on code enforcement cases and receiving feedback on community development priorities.
- Represent the City in criminal and administrative legal proceedings before courts, administrative agencies, boards, commissions, mediations, and

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Formal prosecution training is desirable.
- Experience Five years of professional legal experience as a practicing attorney, with at least two years focused on criminal law or prosecution. Experience in civil law or municipal government legal work, including code enforcement, is preferred.
- License and Certification
- Valid Utah Drivers License
- Membership in and good standing with the Utah State
- Admission to practice before all Utah State and local courts, and S. District Court.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Utah Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS) Certification through the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI)

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Occasionally
lifts or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position has exposure to stressful situations. Work is often performed under deadlines and time constraints. May drive a motor vehicle.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on site
- Monday to Friday, minimum 40 hours per week. (Schedule to be determined.)
- Salary range: $81,752.71 - $136,254.52 (Starting wage is dependent on experience.)
