JOB SUMMARY

The Hourly Nutrition Technician prepares and serves food items to students and school personnel, maintains facilities in a safe and sanitary condition, occasionally handles money and reconciles transactions, and guides assigned personnel/volunteers in the performance of their job functions. Nutrition Technicians may be required to transfer between school kitchens to fulfill department staffing needs.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are: Ability to pass a physical abilities assessment Able to obtain a Food Handler's Permit within two weeks of hire Able to follow safety practices and procedures, including the proper use of food preparation equipment Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications Ability to complete basic math computations (add, subtract, multiply & divide)

Food handling experience Point-of-sale transaction and money-handling experience Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect food items and supplies to verify quantity and specifications of orders and comply with mandated health standards Prepare, arrange, and serve food and beverage items to meet mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirements in a safe and efficient manner Interact in a positive manner (e.g. students, staff, administration, general public, etc.) to maintain a friendly and welcoming environment for customer dining Correctly identify a federally reimbursable meal and appropriately categorize its food components. Communicate with students to help them select food options to meet the federally reimbursable meal standard Clean utensils, equipment, and the storage of food preparation and serving areas (e.g. sweeping, mopping, garbage removal, washing tables, etc.) to maintain sanitary conditions Collect payments for food items from students and staff and reconcile transactions (e.g. cash, meal tickets, point-of-sale, federal meal benefits, etc.) to secure funds for reimbursement, balance accounts, and comply with district accounting practices Stock food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security of items. Inventory food items, condiments, and supplies to ensure their availability Maintain food service equipment (e.g. weekly cleaning of proofers, ovens, steam tables, etc.) to maintain safe operating conditions Prepare documentation (e.g. production records, inventory, etc.) to provide written support and relay information Respond to inquiries of students, staff, and the public to provide information and direction regarding the type and cost of meals, and adherence to program regulations and guidelines Attend meetings and trainings as required for a minimum of 6 hours per year (e.g. Healthy Edge and Safety and Sanitation classes within first 6 months, ServSafe, etc.) to convey and gather information required to perform functions As needed, stand for extended periods of time, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit EMPLOYEE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
