Pastry Assistant Job Summary:

The Pastry Assistant is first and foremost skilled, organized, and creative, a team player, follows instructions, and helps us delight our guests with delicious desserts from our menu. In addition to pastry prowess, great communication and organizational skills are paramount. This role requires attention to detail, keeping the kitchen tidy and clean all while preparing, baking, cooking, and arranging food together with the rest of our kitchen staff. We pride ourselves in our exceptional service, and we expect nothing less from our pastry assistants.

Responsibilities of a Pastry Assistant:

  • Maintaining a sanitized and well-organized kitchen.
  • Preparing workstations for baking.
  • Skill in operating equipment such as mixers, food processors, food cutters, slicers, blenders, gas range, and fryers.
  • Checking the quality of the ingredients.
  • Preparing baked/cooked items using various techniques.
  • Preparing food using various pastry techniques.
  • Arranging food and ensuring an appealing presentation.
  • Manage food storage, stock, and ingredient orders.
  • Time management and organizational skills to review daily production needs and plan daily.

Requirements:

RequirementsPastry Assistant Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to accurately weigh, sift, measure, and mix baking ingredients.
  • Be able to adhere to recipes.
  • Must be knowledgeable in bread and standard pastry items such as: ice creams, cakes, chocolate, and various pastry techniques.
  • Must have at least 3 years of pastry experience.
  • Must be able to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Must have basic bakery skills and a good understanding of bakery terminology, as well as baker's math.
  • Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload.
  • Ability to interact in a team based environment.
  • Ability to complete orders quickly.
  • ServSafe is a plus, as well as previous experience in a high-volume bakery or restaurant setting.
